any day now

i am looking for the camera upload cord... as soon as it is found i will post pictures of the babycreep sculpture and necklace collection that i have taken out of my senior BFA piece.  the piece itself had to be disassembled for lack of space to store it and because lately i have been so fond of recycling my supplies which in turn is also very cost and time effective! anyway... i'll post a few pictures of my final piece for now but as soon as that cord shows it's face the babycreeps will be here in their lovely individual portraits for your viewing pleasure.  until then here are two pictures of my final BFA piece.

so many exciting things!

i graduated just this saturday from Memphis College of Art!  it's been 5 and a half long years but i made it.  and next i am leaving this thursday to go to Horn Island.  this will be my third year going on this amazing trip sponsored by MCA but this will be the 27th year anniversary of the start of the program!  we spend 8 days on an island (horn island) off the coast of mississippi.  last year we were leaving just as the first signs of the effects of the oil spill were showing up.  i am both excited and nervous to see what the spill has changed about the island.  hopefully there will be just as many dolphins early in the morning, pelicans, crabs, jellies, fish and all of the many other animals that inhabit this beautiful place. here is a small ceramic sculpture that i made after last years trip.

when i get back (may29th)  i plan to post pictures of the babycreep sculptures and jewelry that i created recently.  be on the lookout in the next few months!

The reasons I love my boyfriend (silly and small but true)

so he's putting the vibraphone he borrows from work back together and mentions that when we have to move to a different place the navy guys in charge might not be as nice there as they are here about letting him check out (borrow) different instruments like he does with the vibes. so i said that surely they make a smaller version like mini vibes or something more affordable and easy to store. so i googled it, like all of us do these days when we're curious about something, and came across a link that said: "how to build your own vibraphone" i read this out loud and he says: "I can't hang a picture." and as i laugh i remind him that i'm a sculpture major and can build things so he doesn't have to. i am so glad he is NOT a tim the tool man or anything... lol. god i love him.

And OH the possibilities!

it's overwhelming sometimes. everything. the choices, the options, the possibilities that every day holds. just thinking about it makes me feel like spacing out at the computer staring at pretty things on etsy or snooping through facebook photos of people i've barely spoken to this past year. i have tons of things with which to create but it's daunting. the thought of the many many ideas that go through my mind for just one little object or piece of fabric, yarn or clay. ugh... it's not lack of creativity but having too much that seems to be the trouble. how silly. i am, however, thankful that my mind is not a complete blank. just a crazy conglomeration of "i could make this into this or this or this or THIS!" man oh man... i better get to making. here's what i made yesterday...

gotta put my brain on channel focus so i don't waste today on indecision! :D

printing printing printing... how do you work this thing again?

here i sit... the week of finals... printing on a bajillion (17) sheets of paper. the paper that i MADE... the paper that took me forever to get to the 'this-looks-nice-enough-to-turn-in' stage. so now i'm digitally printing on the back of it which is scary because i don't know much about all this fancy computer stuff. it kinda feels like watching your child ride their bike for the first time... i'm just waiting for this paper to fall and scrape it's knee. only problem is... they don't really make band-aids for handmade paper projects. *sigh*

will promise to post pictures later!

and now it's later! i think i did this last year? better late than never huh? these are from the papermaking class i took. this is a sheet of paper that i pulled myself and then used a stencil i made from mylar (that overhead projector clear sheet stuff that teachers use in elementary school) and pulp painted the layered coral imagery (which was the stencil), and then the silhouette of my son and the words are letterpressed with rubber based inks! man i loved that class.

this is the close up of the inside. it says: I find you buried in the flood
tangled among dreams abandoned

this is the inside

this is the sheet folded once in half. this is digitally printed which was the scary part i was talking about earlier.

and this is it with the final fold. another digital print.
